Current Opportunity - Senior Estimator

Job Description

JEDS Construction has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Estimator to join our world-class team. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Senior Estimator will plan, coordinate and oversee activities pertaining to Tender Specifications, Bidding practices and material purchase estimates. The Senior Estimator will also coordinate the activities of all estimators and further the development of the estimating team to ensure company goals and objectives are consistently met.


  • Development of estimating team.
  • Prepare and review quantity take-offs on projects.
  • Review all final team estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation.  
  • Prepare and review accurate pricing of estimates, including labour, material and subcontract items.
  • Develop relationships with sub-contractors, and identify new material suppliers and subcontractors to meet the construction needs of the company.
  • Originate and maintain current subcontractor and material supplier solicitation lists.
  • Coordinate bids; obtain and analyze bids on projects from subcontractors and material vendors.
  • Knowledge and understanding of marketing and business development practices in the construction industry in Winnipeg.
  • Keep abreast of current changes and trends in construction codes.
  • Maintain up-to-date capabilities on estimating computer software and programs.
  • Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Civil Engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Management or technical training or experience preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in general construction estimating all levels of projects required.
  • Thorough knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts.
  • Excellent computer skills, knowledge of Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, automation bid systems and easily adapts to new software
  • Excellent organizational, supervisory and decision making/problem solving skills essential.
  • Experience in design-build and land development a strong asset.
